Prior to opening his first business, Planet Soft, Sudhir Bajaj served as the Chief Information Officer at Cyrk, Inc. Under his leadership, Cyrk experienced a successful public offering and acquisitions of four different businesses. After six years leading his colleagues at Cyrk, Bajaj left the business in 1999 to start Planet Soft.
Planet Soft was an international insurance software developer that assisted businesses in developing and underwriting insurance policies that supported the life insurance industry in a global market. As CEO, Sudhir Bajaj developed offices in the United States and India, employing over 500 individuals on two continents. The business grew consistent year over year, and in 2012 attracted the attention of rival software developer Ebix. Ebix bought Planet Soft in July of 2012 for millions of dollars, of which $35 million was paid in cash, and another $5 million was awarded in shares of Ebix stock. With the profits accrued from the sale of Planet Soft, Bajaj looked to embark on a new aspect of healthcare, this time choosing to invest in medical device developer Lens Gen. Lens Gen, based out of Irvine, Calif., is working to revolutionize the ophthal mological community through the development of a new implantable intraocular eye lens that helps minimize the effects of presbyopia. Presbyopia is the natural degradation of the eye’s lens through aging, typically beginning to affect patients over the age of 40. Within the eye, the lens loses its ability to change shape and auto focus on nearby objects. Typically, ophthalmologists prescribe corrective lenses or reading glasses, to facilitate a better field of vision. However, Bajaj and his partners at Lens Gen have hope that their revolutionary development will eliminate the need for reading glasses for patients suffering from presbyopia.
